Privacy
The short version. We ask once whether you’re willing to be counted by Google Analytics. Say no, or ignore it, and your browser never contacts Google at all. No cookies are set. Say yes and it sets an analytics cookie. There is no advertising here either way, and nothing is ever sold or shared. If you email us, we have your email. That is the whole of it.
What this covers
This policy applies to cyligence.com. Our products have their own policies, because they do things this website does not. socialpic handles location data, for instance, and is governed by its own privacy policy rather than this one.
Analytics, and the choice we ask you to make
We want to know whether anyone reads this site, so we would like to use Google Analytics 4. Because that sets a cookie, we ask first.
If you decline, or simply never answer, nothing happens at all. The analytics code is not loaded, not merely disabled. Your browser makes no request to Google, so Google never learns you were here. No cookies are set. The site behaves identically.
If you accept, Google Analytics loads and sets its usual analytics cookie, which lets us see:
- which pages are read, and how often
- which site or search you arrived from
- roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you used
- whether you had visited before
Even then, advertising remains switched off. Ad storage and ad personalisation are denied, and ad-click identifiers are stripped from what is sent, so this data is not used to target advertising here or anywhere else. Loading the tag means requests to googletagmanager.com and google-analytics.com; Google necessarily sees your IP address in the course of that and handles it under its own privacy policy.
Changing your mind
Whatever you chose, you can change it: the Cookies link at the bottom of any page brings the choice back. Your answer is remembered in your browser’s local storage under cy-analytics-consent. That one entry exists purely to honour your decision, and it is the only thing this site stores on your device when you decline.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat that as a decline automatically and never show you the banner. Any tracker blocker will also stop the tag, and the site works the same.
Third parties
Google, and only if you accept. Everything else, including fonts, images and stylesheets, is served from our own domain. Fonts in particular are self-hosted rather than loaded from Google Fonts, which would otherwise send your IP address to a third party before the page had finished loading. We have an automated check that fails if any other outside request appears, so this list cannot quietly grow.
What our host sees
The site is served by a hosting provider that, like every web server, necessarily processes your IP address and browser user-agent in order to send you the page. That is a technical requirement of delivering a website, it is handled by the provider under their own terms, and we do not build profiles from it or receive it as a dataset.
If you email us
If you write to hello@cyligence.com we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not pass your message to anyone outside the company. Ask us to delete the correspondence and we will.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information, and we never have.
- We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
- We do not use it to train models.
- We do not attempt to identify you, or to recognise you across sites.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights to access, correct, export and delete the personal information a company holds about you, and to object to its processing. That covers the UK and EU under GDPR, California under the CCPA, and a growing number of other jurisdictions.
In our case there is usually very little to exercise those rights against. If you declined analytics we hold nothing about you whatsoever. If you accepted, the data sits in Google Analytics and is not linked to your name or email, so we generally cannot pick your records out of it. You can withdraw consent at any time using the Cookies link in the footer, and clearing your browser’s cookies for this site removes the identifier. Where we do hold something, such as an email you sent us, write to hello@cyligence.com and we will action it. We will not ask you to justify the request.
Children
This site is not directed at children, and asks nobody of any age for personal information.
Changes
If we add anything to this site that changes the above, such as a newsletter form, an embedded video or another analytics vendor, we will update this page and change the date at the top before it goes live, not after. A privacy policy that is accurate only in retrospect is not a privacy policy.
